Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

At Bergen CodeHers, spreading programming curriculum to girls with limited access to computer science education is our main priority. With the prominent gender gap, we support these opportunities, especially for those whose schools don't provide enriching computer science classes.

Sophia Park

Sophia Park is the current Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Bergen CodeHers. She contacts schools, libraries, and organizations to spread awareness of our program, especially to those without access to an enriching computer science education.

Sophia works towards giving equal access to resources to students with limited educational opportunities. Her focus on spreading the accessibility of computer science has shown the many ways programming is important to one's studies. Focusing on medical research and its applications in technology, Sophia has seamlessly combined her passion for medicine with her dedication to bridging the gender gap in computer science.

Ever since her first science fair at the age of eleven, Sophia has pursued her curiosity for the research world. Sophia's placed several times in Physics at the Bergen SciChallenge, was nominated for the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge, and went on to present her scientific research at the NJ Academy of Science Colloquium for LIFE in STEM.

Now, she’s planning to combine her interests in technology, medicine, and research by creating STEM Speaks, our sister organization to help others learn science communication. Through STEM Speaks, Sophia is committed to inspiring the next generation of students to embrace their potential and pursue their passions at a young age. By helping students develop presentation skills early, she ensures they have a strong foundation to build upon as they progress through their academic journey and beyond.
